This is not a idea, but rather a question.
Hey ChooseMyPC,
I am Alex and i decided to take a shot at building my own PC and I find myself in need of some help. Please note that I am a total beginner in PC building. I have watched lots of videos though and done my research and I have come up with a set of components I would like to have, which I will list below.
Now, my question is, are these parts compatible with each other? Also, I am not sure I've taken the right decision on every component, so if you would recommend any change, I would really appreciate it:
- [ ] Case: Crystal Series 570X RGB ATX Mid-Tower
- [ ] Power Supply: EVGA 210-GQ-0850-V2 PSU 850W SuperNOVA GQ 1x 12V, ECO Mode, 80+ Gold
- [ ] Processor: Intel BX80677I77700K Quad-Core "Kaby Lake" Processor (Basistakt 4.20GHz, Turbotakt 4.50GHz) grey
- [ ] Cooler: Enermax ELC-LMR120S-BS Liqmax II 120 Water Cooler
- [ ] Motherboard: Asus ROG-Strix-Z270E Gaming Mainboard Sockel 1151 (ATX, Intel Z270, Kabylake, 4x DDR4, USB 3.1, M.2)
- [ ] Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws F4-3000C15D-16GVR 16GB PC 3000 (CL15, 2x 8GB)DDR4-RAM Kit
- [ ] Graphics Card: Asus ROG Strix-GTX1080-O8G-Gaming Nvidia Graphics Card (PCIe 3.0, 8GB GDDR5X, HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort) Overclocked
- [ ] CD Drive: LG GH24NSB0-AUAR10B interner DVD-Burner (24x Reading Speed) black
- [ ] SSD: Samsung Basic MZ-7KE512BW 850 Pro internal SSD 512GB (6,3 cm (2,5 Zoll), SATA III) black
- [ ] HDD: Seagate IronWolf 8 TB, ST8000VN0022, 8,9 cm (3,5 Zoll), 256 MB Cache, 7200 RPM, SATA 6 Gb/s
- [ ] Monitor: Acer Predator X34A 87 cm (34 Zoll) Curved eSports Monitor (HDMI, USB 3.0, Displayport, 4ms Reaction Time, up to 100 Hz, UltraWide QHD Resolution 3,440 x 1,440, Schwenkbar EEK C, Nvidia G-Sync, Height adjustable) silver/black
What I am looking for is a powerful machine for gaming but also for developing games. I would also like it to fully support VR. I would also like to watch movies on high-end resolution. Also, the more silent it is, the better.
There's only one more thing I'd like to know about the case. Only after I have chosen every component have I realised that the case I chose is actually a Mid-Tower and not a Full Tower. Do you think it's too small? Also, is there any space for the CD Drive? As an alternative, I have chosen the Corsair CC-9011063-WW Graphite Series 780T Side-Windowed Full-Tower ATX Performance LED Gaming House, Black mit Red LED Cooler. Do you think this one is a better choice for my needs? I'd also like to have a combination of SDD and HDD and would like to know if this is possible with these two case options.
So, all in all, my main question is, are these components all compatible with each other? I would also appreciate any other tips and tricks or suggestion you could give me.
Thank you very much for your time.
All the best,
Alex B.

Hi Alex,
Well done with the configuration above - it looks really good.
I have built a few PCs myself and one that I put together only last month has the following specs:
CPU: 7700k 4.2 (cooling: corsair h80i v2) - OCed it to stable 4.6 atm
ram: 16gb (2x8gb 2133)
GPU: strix 1060 (6gb)
mobo: strix z270e
power supply: corsair cs650m
ssd: 250gb
hdd: 3tb
case: Corsair Carbide Series 100RBy looking at it it seems all components will be compatible. The new Z270E does support Kaby Lake processors so you are safe in that aspect. It is also a really good choice as it provides you with sufficient PCI-e ports, USB 3.1 and 3.0 and user friendly BIOS but also has Wi-Fi on board (with a fancy antenna btw).
A few comments and suggestions from me on the build:
First of all I would definitely go for the Full ATX case for a few reasons the main being not risking that some of the components will not fit (and you really do not want to get a heart attack during your first build!). 1080 is a really big GPU in size and I had difficulties fitting in my GPU and cooler. Also remember that the more powerful GPU and CPU (and you have picked the top of the top) the more heat they generate so you want to have as much airspace within the case as possible. It will also benefit your cable management and general look from outside - instead of crumped peripherals and cables you will have a very satisfying feeling every time you look at it :)
In terms of the components I just wanted to point out that the cooling system you have chosen might be not enough for such a powerful (and heat generating) CPU.
Take a look at Corsair h100i, NZXT Kraken X52/X62 or similiar dual cooling systems. If you are going to use it for extreme gaming/VR the likelihood is that soon you will want to OC and this will not be doable unless you have an upgraded cooling system. Also answering your question about HDD and SDD it is yes for both cases - they will have space for those.
Let me know how it goes and also if you have any other questions. Hope the above is in any way helpful!
Thanks,
Konrad
