  1. Quick question

Is ASRock X99 Extreme3 ATX LGA2011-3 good for SLI? I posted in reedit and they keep telling me to get a better motherboard.

Sadly, I am afraid that AMD CPUs currently aren’t very viable, especially for gaming, due to them not having a performance release for a while and their single threaded performance being so disappointing.

It is quite a sad state of affairs but I will always be recommending the parts which are best for the money and that is currently Intel chips across a wide variety of budgets.

There are still AMD CPUs being recommended but this is usually very very low budgets where APUs are the choice as a discrete GPU cannot be afforded, or the AMD athlon series where you cannot afford to purchase an i3.

Thanks for your feedback! Hope you like the site.

  3. Compatibility bug

In Australia, it seems to be picking DDR4 RAM when it's cheaper, even when paired with an incompatible Z97 mobo. example https://choosemypc.net/au/?budget=1500&oc=maybe&options=

Not for sale anymore. Most builds use this on your website, but goes into a 404 error.

  7. Fix the description for the R9 270X

It's the same as a 7870 GHz, edition, not the 7870XT, the XT was a different chip based off a cut down Tahiti, 7870GHz is the fully enabled Pitcairn

  9. Mid to high range AMD GPUs are not the best for lower to mid end CPUs

On some builds below $660 the AMD R9 280x (and some other similar AMD cards) are a recommended pair for the i3 4160. I have found some research which says these powerful AMD GPUs do not perform as well as they should on a lower end CPUs because of DirectX 11 and the lack of good AMD drivers. NVIDIA GPUs do not have the same problem and work better in Dx 11 with less powerful CPUS. I will post links to some articles I have found. The first is all you need to read to understand, but more info equals…

    Hi,

The 280X and similar cards are very well matched in most games with the i3 currently as few games actually take full advantage of more than a couple of threads on the CPU. You will find that it is much better for most games, for example, to pick up an i3+280X compared to an i5+270X for instance just because the graphics card is the most important aspect of a gaming PC.

Although there is a lot of hype about directx12 increasing performance with lower end CPUs, which is always a good thing, the examples are all cherry picked and I am doubtful as to the gains in most scenarios. which can be achieved.

Basically the cards do perform just fine in combination with ‘lower end CPUs’ (though I wouldn’t exactly class the i3 as low end, it’s more midrange in terms of a gaming build) but there is…

I will do my very best to keep the site updated on a regular basis for sales, however if you are referring to the deals available through Amazon on Prime day they are limited ‘lightning deals’ which might not even be updated in time on PCPartPicker let alone give me enough time to add them to ChooseMyPC, so it may be somewhat difficult on very time limited offers.

I would recommend keeping an eye over at Reddit’s /r/buildapcsales and looking to swap parts from a basic core list from ChooseMyPC depending on how prices change.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Check troubleshooting guides online, but my first suspicions would be:

    1) Cabling, this is almost certain to be the issue. Something either not plugged in like 4/8pin CPU power or something misplaced like your front panel header connections shorting

    2) Not using motherboard standoffs causing the motherboard to short (less likely)

They’re always the first things to check! :)

  12. Fix the build at price 1180 w/ overclocking

It picks a titan and the total price is $1655.38 which is well over 1180

  13. A powerful CPU Cooler

I saw that in most of the options you put the stock cooler for the processor. If you will use the PC for gaming I suppose that a 1200$ budget PC (example) will produce a lot of heat. But in general it's a fantastic website, goodjob! :)

    Hi

Thanks for the feedback, but the site is focused on gaming builds and unfortunately the current state of the market is that Intel are much better placed to compete with stronger single threaded performance than AMD CPUs, which is better for the far majority of games.

I always endeavor to recommend the best parts for the money, and at present unfortunately AMD can’t seem to compete for gaming purposes in the CPU space across most of the budget range.

    Thanks,
    Mark

  16. Allow option to toggle SSD

I don't think everyone wants an ssd in their $550 build, in favor of a better CPU/GPU/larger hard drive, Any chance you could make the SSD optional?

  19. Remove the profanity in one of your articles.

I'm not trying to be obnoxious, and trust me I curse a lot. Just ask my monitor. But on your article "http://choosemypc.net/wcguide/" Under the section "putting things together" bullet 7, it said "Dykes (wire cutters) for cutting shit and pliers (both needlenose and blunt) for bending, pulling, gripping and breaking shit." Mind you I was not offended but someone might be and I'd dislike to see it come back on the writer. Anyhow, thank you for the help and have a pleasant day.

  20. Replace the 5930K with the 5820K

Well it is essentially the same processor just clocked a little lower and 28 vs 40 PCIE lanes. The 5820K is almost $200 and it will perform basically the same.
