  1. Have an option to add SSD

I really want to see builds without an SSD, as I don't think they are completely necessary. So you could add the option next to the Include Windows button.

    Hello!

SSDs can actually already be removed from builds by clicking the pencil icon next to the already added SSD. The build generator will automatically allocate the funds to other areas of the build.

However I would strongly encourage the purchase of an SSD from my personal experience even for a performance focused gaming build as the difference in everyday speed is huge and undeniable. Just something to consider.

Thanks for your interest and feedback,

    Hey,

Sorry for the late response on this. Although it may seem that only NVidia and Intel products are recommended at certain price points due to their superior bang for buck for the money this is not the case. If an Intel CPU and AMD graphics card are good together they will be recommended like anything else.

    Thanks,

  3. Remove the Kingston SSD suggestions

    Thread with included data: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/1wggpo/simple_questions_thread_29_jan_2014/cf1tg0t?context=6

I found this site very helpful as I'm looking to build my own PC for the first time. With a $650 budget I was recommended the Kingston SSD, and being a naive newbie, the price compared to the Samsung with the reviews to back it had me looking no further. Luckily I asked about my parts list ahead of time and found that while they used to be good, they're now complete scams.

You can actually already customise (including remove) the storage options allowing for removal of the SSD, and you can also remove the case and PSU already.

Changing other parts in the current implementation would affect the ability of the build generator to produce a build below budget. I will be working on this in future.

    Thanks for the feedback!

  5. include a last-updated line

You mention on the generator that the site is updated regularly, but we don't know when you wrote that. The build guide has a last updated line, and that's good, but newbs could feel extra-confident in the build they generate if they know you looked at this algorithm recently.

Great site by the way, thanks so much for making it!

  6. Option of Choosing between dual or single GFX card solutions

I've found from past experience I'm not a lover of the struggles of dual graphics solutions, it caused more pain than gain. Personally I think you should provide an alternative single card solution too when dual graphics cards are suggested.

  7. Not giving me a graphics card??

I just did a build on the site for $1000 Canadian, no overclocking, include Windows and Optical Drive....but it didn't include a graphics card in the build. :\

  8. Selecting ATI/NVIDIA

Can there be an option to choose between Nvidia and ATI cards when you are selecting your initial options? I'm an ATI fan-boy and would like the option to have those included in expensive builds.

    Hey,

Sorry, but this is unlikely to become a feature within the build generator. ChooseMyPC is all about generating the best possible performance rig for the available money and brand preferences would compromise this.

ChooseMyPC uses an algorithm to select the best graphics cards for the money in terms of 1080p performance.

However if you would like to change your graphics cards manually, please feel free to click the pcpartpicker link and edit them yourself to your liking. The prices should not be too significantly different.

    Thanks for your feedback,

  9. Recommend dual-channel memory

It's popular to say "hurr durr only 5% difference in benchmarks" but the reality is that running with a single memory channel can really create a bottleneck, especially on the AMD FX CPUs you're recommending, which have a very weak memory controller.

You're foolishly doing something for no reason which can cause stutters (and thus provably does impact minimum framerates in games) and sap performance from streaming applications which don't use the GPU (CPU-based video encoding, which is still preferable due to higher quality than GPU-based encoders.)

Why not avoid it? 2x4GB is not significantly more expensive. It's pointless, foolish,…

I will always attempt to recommend dual channel RAM when it is not a significant amount less than dual channel, however I believe you are overstating the benefits.

Granted it could make a difference in some cases but it is unlikely to make much of a difference at all in terms of gaming performance which is what choosemypc aims to maximise.

That being said I believe the crucial has come off sale and will shortly be replaced by a better option within the build generator.

  10. Could your Sleeving Generator be Augmented

By that I mean simply having an extra section allowing all cores to be chosen? ...fussy, yes.... but I think it would give the user the freedom to see exactly what a more complex build might look like.

I personally had wanted to see an offset second colour, and also a single strip either side of a 3rd colour, so the simplest solution would be a colour chart for each core, including the swap buttons.

as well (I know cheeky arn't I) as most cases are dark or led lit, a final colour chart box for the backgound would really…

    Hey!

Unfortunately I have no plans to introduce any sort of bias into ChooseMyPC as I always want it to be recommending the best performing build at a particular budget.

It may also needlessly complicate the number of options required to generate a build.

Thanks for the feedback and if you have any other ideas feel free to post them!

  14. Problem with PCPartPicker Link

If I select no HDD and either No Case, No PSU, or No Case And No PSU, the PCPartPicker link takes me to a 404 error page. Any other combination of these options seems to work fine.

  16. I noticed that when I try to remove the HDD it resets the case and PSU that I removed earlier.

I've tried various removal orders and I can't get all three to be gone at the same time.

Sorry for the delay in answering this. 16gb RAM is recommended at the very high end after everything else is already maxed.

RAM is something where 8gb for gaming is perfectly sufficient and a really nice sweet spot for that kind of use.
