  1. allow specifically setting certain parts

I have a mostly old computer but a new graphics card. I want that card, and then my budget, to dictate the build

Sorry for the delay in responding to this

I’m afraid something like this would be incredibly complicated to code with all the different variables which could make up a rig.

I won’t totally rule it out but it isn’t something I will want to do any time soon.

    Thanks for your suggestion.

    Hello!

Peripherals are not something I would like to include on the site due to both the personal nature of them as well as to avoid making the UI of the main build generator too complicated.

However I do have a prebuilt-style build customizer in the works which will allow the addition of these sorts of optional additions. This is a way off being feature complete but should be a welcome addition to the site by many.

    Thank you for your interest,

Just as you can choose to add operating system and optical drive, would it be worth adding the option to add a wireless card for those who own no wires?

Something very personal like this wouldn’t really be under the scope of a cookie cutter build website and may just clutter up the interface unnecessarily.

However I will consider adding peripherals etc in the future if I don’t have something more important to add as a greater priority!

  5. Add support for MSY for Australians

It has lower prices than the other stores and is way better for lower-priced builds: http://www.msy.com.au/sa/holdenhill/

  6. A couple ideas

    • Don't use seagate, they are not as reliable and are not as fast as western digital.
    • Switched the r9 290 in the 1k build to a 970, much better bang for the buck and doesn't burn up like the sun.
    • Use a different brand then Team Vulcan for memory, G.Skill works very well.
    • Your power supplies are from companies that are not very good at making power supplies. Stick with XFX, Cooler Master, and SeaSonic.
    • Just because someone is not overclocking doesn't mean they won't need a good or at least decent CPU cooler.
    • If your gonna use r9 290s…

I am afraid you are misinformed on pretty much all your points, actually.

There is no reliable evidence to say that WD are more reliable than Seagate for HDDs. They are most certainly not faster, in fact the barracuda is faster in most applications then the equivalently priced WD blue drive, however it makes little to no real world difference so you should get whichever is cheaper.

The 970 is more expensive and is used if the budget allows for it. The 290s are perfectly well cooled with non-reference cards, the heat issues were with the reference design which was awful.

Memory is rated for particular specifications and is manufactured by the same couple of companies. It makes no difference which brand you buy because RAM is RAM.

If someone is not over clocking, there is no benefit in getting a better CPU cooler aside from if they live…

  7. Other languages

I think it would be nice to add support for other languages such as the french, Spanish or German. And also the support of the Euro.

    Hey!

I would love to implement this, however PCPartPicker, the source of my pricing data is not very accurate for these regions.

In addition to this, for every new region I add to the build generator I need to regularly update local pricing for which takes a lot of time for the more niche regions.

It is something I will consider going forward but is unlikely to be implemented any time in the near future. Sorry!

Thanks for your feedback and if you have anything else to contribute feel free to post it here

  8. recommend good DDR4 RAM

For the $2,500 option with overclocking, you recommend DRR4-2133 memory. For $10-$20 more you can get DDR4-2400 memory.

For a gaming rig however this has been shown to make essentially no difference in real world performance, which is why these upgrades are not done.

Capacity is much more important than speed however if you would like to make that change for a specific purpose or just because you want to, it is possible through PCPartPicker.

  9. Pick specific parts like CPU

I might wish to build a PC centered around say, a core i7 but get builds generated for an AMD cpu.

Or, I really want an nVidia Titan, so what can I pair with that to meet the rest of my budget.

So it would be great to be able to pick specific CPU, video card, etc.

    Hi Oliver,

Both of these parts are in the ChooseMyPC database, and will be chosen if they are worth the money.

At certain price points, both the mentioned parts are also recommended as they are good value for money at a very limited number of price points.

I don’t believe in harboring brand preferences and so do not weight brands in any way to have one preferred over another – everything recommended is a result of price being compared to performance to check whether it is good value for money.

Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

It has been unavailable at this price at newegg for a few weeks now. It skews the build a bit.

I am dedicated to recommending the best performing parts for the price range and so do not want to change this to introduce a system where the user can make a build far worse for the money.

I don’t like harboring brand preferences on the site – if you have any specific preferences such as this you can feel free to visit pcpartpicker and customize it to your liking.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately although this is an option which might make sense for your preferences, it is way too specific to implement on a site with choosemypc’s goals.

PSU mounting at the top of the case is certainly not objectively worse though, especially not with rotated layouts in a case like the TJ08b-e. Really the difference is inconsequential.

  16. Add support for MX

  17. Cut out SSD's for builds below 1000 dollars.

Personally I feel that at that point a budget would be better spent on a better GPU, MOBO, or more efficient PSU.

I strongly disagree with you there.

I/O is the biggest bottleneck in 99% of computers, and an SSD makes a huge real world difference.

In comparison a mobo or more efficient PSU makes 0 real world difference to the speed or performance of the build. You can make an argument for a GPU upgrade being preferred, but an SSD+7950/760 would be a much better combo than, for example, a 7970 on its own in terms of the overall experience.

You can manually take the SSD off using the customisable storage options, but that would be a mistake IMO.

  18. Explain Windows part changes

I built a machine and then hit the add windows button and almost every feature changed. Given that most gaming rigs are Windows I'd be curious to know the justification behind what that is changing.

    Hey,

Perhaps I can explain a little bit about how this works. Including the costs of Windows in the total cost of the build effectively reduces the budget by $100, meaning the rest of the build will be downgraded to suit.

This actually has nothing to do with Windows vs Linux, just the price which must be accounted for.

    Thanks,
    Mark

  20. Have another country to buy items off?

I am currently living in New Zealand and it's very hard for me to pick the parts, as I have to convert the currency and then go to New Zealand sites to find the same at item at a way higher price, I cannot simply ship over the items as sites like Newegg do not ship to other countries. Thanks for your time.

    Hi Jacob.

I would love to add more and more regions, but each one takes an increasing amount of my time to keep updated, and so the more niche areas in terms of demographics I have to leave out in order to invest my time on the most popular regions where the majority of people are from.

It is a possibility that I will expand in the future, but I have many other items I need to work on which are much higher on my priority list.

    Sorry,
    Mark
